Moosetard Mustards

Kasha Ostbloom started with a recipe for Grandma Hahn's German Mustard. She improved on that by substiting locally made Spruce Tip Syrup for brown sugar and corn syrup, and the first version of Moosetard was born. Moosetard quickly became a hit at the Tanana Valley Farmer's Market and has gone on to widespread distribution. Kasha's creative use of local ingredients has resulted in many unique flavors.

  • Ginger Birch
    Ginger Birch is a sweet mustard with a bit of a kick due to our use of fresh ginger root. This mustard is made with syrup harvested in the spring from Birch trees in the Alaskan Interior. The trees are tapped and the syrup is boiled down in a manner similar to Maple syrup. This mustard goes great on a ham sandwich, makes an excellent glaze for pork or chicken and gives potato salad just the right zing. Ginger Birch is a seasonal mustard.

  • Cranberry North
    Cranberry Northern Da'Light is a sweet mustard with a full bodied taste. This mustard is made with a combination of Cranberry, Rose Hip and Fireweed syrups. Our cranberries are the Alaskan low-bush variety and are handpicked in the fall. To retain the rosy hue of the berry in the mustard we use less than .001% of a flavorless Rosemary extract, which acts as a natural preservative. This mustard is wonderful on a turkey or chicken sandwich and makes a nice glaze for halibut or other white fish. Cranberry Northern Da'Light is a seasonal mustard.

  • AK Wild Fire
    Alaska Wildfire is a smoky medium/hot mustard. This mustard contains horseradish and over five different types of peppers (including piquin, dandicut and guillio). While our mustard is "nicely warm" we wanted to keep the richness of the peppers without sacrificing the flavor to the heat. With the amount of wildfires the interior has seen in the last couple of years we almost named this one "Fairbanks Summer". It has quickly become the local favorite and is our tribute to the Smokejumpers who brave the flames. This mustard adds the right amount of spice to any meal and makes a fabulous glaze for a prime rib. Alaska Wildfire is available year round.

  • Alder Smoked
    Alder Smoked is a complex mustard with a rich deep smoky flavor. This mustard is made with whole brown and yellow mustard seeds that have been naturally smoked in an Alaskan smoke house. Our local customers love it with a platter of smoked salmon, cheese and crackers. This mustard is great on anything but is fantastic with salmon. Alder Smoked is available year round.

  • Bold-n-Gold
    This is a bold and tangy beer mustard made with Fairbanks Lager from Silver Gulch, America's Northern most brewery. We sweeten this mustard with rich brown sugar and golden honey, then spice it up with horseradish and cracked peppercorn. This mustard is best with salmon or beef when cooking and makes a great sandwich mustard. This mustard is available year round.

  • Pick Axe Porter
    Pick Axe Porter with Molasses is a dark beer mustard with a full rich flavor. This mustard is made with Pick Axe Porter from Silver Gulch, America's Northern most brewery in Fox, Alaska. We sweeten this mustard with rich dark molasses and let it caramelize until it is the color of dark chocolate. This mustard is wonderful on beef, sausages and as a pretzel dip.   • Bearinade - Teriyaki Sweet Basil Sauce
    We put a new spin on traditional teriyaki. Instead of ginger this sauce has sweet basil giving it a Thai twist. We also replaced the sesame seeds with yellow mustard seeds giving it just the right amount of bite. It is on the sweeter side and is great for marinating chicken, salmon and other meats. Use it as a dressing for your salads and pasta. It also makes a tasty dip for veggies and fries.

    We use salt harvested from Atlantic Ocean water which has been naturally filtered in the Brazilian Mangroves then allowed to dry with the sun and wind. We slowly and carefully smoke it with Alder wood gathered from the Alaskan Interior. The smooth smoky flavor is a wonderful complement to almost any dish and perfect for gourmet grilling. This 8 ounce bottle of sea salt comes with a built in grinder top.
